Endometritis is the inflammation of the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium) and is usually due to an infection.

It is caused by infection in the uterus. It can be due to chlamydia, gonorrhea, tuberculosis or a mix of normal vagina bacteria. All women have a normal mix of bacteria in their vagina, endometritis can be caused when this natural mix of bacteria changes after s life event. Signs and Symptoms include; fever, abdominal swelling, abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge, discomfort when having a bowel movement, lower abdominal pain, etc. Having a miscarriage or childbirth especially long labor and Caesarian section (c/s) increases ones risk of having endometritis.

If left untreated, it can lead to complications with the reproductive organs, issues with fertility and other general health problems.
Practicing safe sex, getting routine screening and early diagnosis of suspected sexually transmitted infections in both the woman and her partner can help prevent endometritis.
